Peterman Plumbing & Heating, Inc. has been a cornerstone of quality craftsmanship and community trust in east central Ohio since 1974. What began as a small family operation under Doug Peterman Sr., who took over the plumbing business from his father, Paul Peterman, has grown into a thriving company with a rich history and a bright future. Today, under the leadership of Doug Peterman Jr., named President in October 2022, the company proudly represents three generations of family dedication.

From its early days serving Dover with residential plumbing and heating services, Peterman Plumbing & Heating has expanded into a full-service provider, offering plumbing, heating, cooling, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, sewer line locating, jetting and maintenance. Over the past 50 years, we’ve completed more than 700 projects, including 39 school construction initiatives since 1999, and grown our customer base to over 7,000 residential, commercial, and industrial clients across Ohio.

Our Journey and Growth

Doug Sr. laid the foundation in 1974, building on his father’s legacy with a focus on new home plumbing and service work. By the 1980s, the company was winning bids for major commercial projects, such as Wendy’s, K-Mart, and the Ohio National Guard Armory. In 1985, we acquired the Lennox franchise from Bair Heating, expanding our heating and air conditioning expertise. Since then, our commercial division has tackled significant renovations and new builds, including Claymont Schools, Buckeye Trail Schools, Texas Roadhouse, Sheetz Gas Stations, and the Cleveland Coast Guard Station, among others.

In 2002, we moved to our current location at 525 West 15th Street in Dover, Ohio, purchasing and renovating a facility that now boasts 5,800 square feet of warehouse space, a 600-square-foot sheet metal shop, and 3,500 square feet of modern office space. This expansion allowed us to enhance our residential and commercial divisions while introducing sustainable energy solutions to meet the needs of a changing world.

Leadership for the Future

In October 2022, Doug Peterman Jr. stepped into the role of President, bringing firsthand experience and a deep connection to the business. Starting as a young boy loading materials and digging ditches, Doug Jr. joined full-time in 2002 after earning his BA in Business Management from the University of Mount Union. His leadership has been a natural progression, built on years of hands-on involvement and a commitment to the company’s core values. Doug Sr. remains CEO, providing guidance and expertise on special projects.

Together, they lead a team of 25 dedicated employees—many of whom have been with us for decades—delivering annual sales averaging $5 million. Our focus remains on quality work, fair pricing, and building lasting relationships with our customers and communities.

Rooted in Community

For 50 years, Peterman Plumbing & Heating has been more than a business—it’s a part of the fabric of Tuscarawas County. We’ve supported local organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Dover Booster Club, Habitat for Humanity, and the Historic Canal Dover Association, contributing labor and materials to projects like the Dover Crater Stadium Pressbox and New Phila’s Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium Pressbox. Doug Jr. and his wife, Natalie, are raising their three children in Dover, where they attend Dover City Schools, further deepening our ties to the area.
