The History of Peterman Plumbing and Heating

Doug Peterman, owner of Peterman Plumbing & Heating, Inc., grew up working in the plumbing business operated by his father, Paul Peterman. In July 1974, Doug assumed ownership of Peterman Plumbing & Heating, Inc. He continued plumbing new houses and performing service work.

Within several years he was successfully bidding on commercial projects such as Premiere Lincoln Mercury (Humphries), Wendy’s on the Boulevard, Midtown Cleaners, K-Mart and the Ohio National Guard Armory. The commercial division of the company has grown to include large commercial projects such as Claymont School renovations, Buckeye Trail (K-8/High) Schools, Bellaire High School renovation, Cambride (High/Middle) Schools, Philo High School, Indian Valley Middle School, Martins Ferry Elementary School, Tri Valley (Dresden/Nashport Elementary) Schools, Newcomerstown School renovations/additions, South Point (South Pt/Burlington) Schools and Pickerington (Tollgate/Sycamore) Schools. Other projects include: Texas Roadhouse, Taco Bell, Pacific Sun, Bob Evans, Mako’s Market, Sheetz Gas Stations(3), Holmes-Wayne Electric, Frontier Power, Basic Systems, Plymouth Foam, Dennison Depot Museum, The Wilds, Guernsey County Crossroads Public Library, Strasburg/New Phila/Walnut Creek WWTP’s and the Cleveland Coast Guard Station are amongst the over 700 completed projects since 1974.

Acquiring Lennox Franchise

In 1985, the Lennox franchise was purchased from Bair Heating, a Lennox dealership. The heating & air conditioning commercial division continues to grow with installations at Dennison Depot, Ridgewood Administration Building, and Tuscarawas-Carrolton-Harrison Education Center, Newcomerstown United Methodist Church Music Room and Edward Jones Investments renovations. Our newest completed projects include: Homes in the Becker Creek area of Dover, Big Jim’s Burgers and Waste Management.

New Additions to Peterman Plumbing & Heating, Inc.

In 2002, Peterman Plumbing & Heating, Inc., purchased the building at our present location. After an addition to the warehouse we possess roughly 5800 square feet of warehouse space, with an additional 600 for our sheet metal shop. Extensive renovations have given us roughly 3500 square feet of office space. This location has allowed us to better develop the plumbing/heating/air conditioning residential & commercial divisions and our newest services in green energy products, such as solar power.

New Projects include: Walgreens (Steubenville, Oh), Burr Oak WTP (Glouster, Oh), Ohio National Guard – RTI (Columbus, Oh), LKQ – 250 Auto (Harrisville, Oh), Tuscarawas County MRDD (New Phila, Oh), Alpine Cheese -cooler addition (Winesburg, Oh), Recently completed plumbing projects include: Belmont County Eastern District Court (Bellaire, Oh). Seven Up (Midvale,Oh), Amko (Midvale, Oh), Salvation Army Garage (New Phila, Oh), Deflecto (Dover, Oh), Pickerington Tollgate Middle/Elementary School (195,000 sq ft), Pickerington Sycamore Elementary School (90,000 sq ft), South Point Elementary (56,000 sq ft), Burlington Elementary School (56,000 sq ft), Basic Systems, Mako’s Market, The Wilds and Plymouth Foam (Previously a Port Authority property in Gnadenhutten, Ohio).

Reaching 40 years of business, we have completed over 700 plumbing and HVAC projects in our company’s history. Our residential, industrial and commercial customers have continued to grow throughout our 40 years in business to include a current customer base of more than 7000 in east central Ohio.

Establishing a Legacy in Ohio

In our 40 years of business, what started out as a one man operation has grown into 22 full-time, with an average yearly sales of $3,000,000 dollars

We have been involved in the Tuscarawas County community with non-profit organizations throughout the years. Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Dover Booster Club. We have contributed labor and materials to organizations such as: Dover Exchange Clubs-Canal Days, Historic Canal Dover Association(office remodel and the Toll Booth replica on the Erie Canal), Habitat For Humanity (family dwellings), New Phila-Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium Pressbox and the Dover Crater Stadium Pressbox.

Times have changed and so have some of our faces here at Peterman Plumbing & Heating Inc. but our goal remains the same as it has been for 40 years: to provide accountability and service at a fair price.
